Scandal over management and change in CEO status
In September of this year, the Smartass fitness club chain, which has ties to the co-founders of monobank, became the subject of public discussion. The conflict began after then-General Director Viktor Hlushchenko published accusations against a former media manager on the social network Threads. According to him, she "simulated intense work". The woman reacted to these words by publishing screenshots of correspondence, claiming she worked "virtually without days off" and faced "toxic communication" from management.
On 7 September, Viktor Hlushchenko officially announced his resignation from the position of CEO. He acknowledged violations of the company's internal rules and apologised. Despite this, according to data from the UBKI agency as of 30 October, Hlushchenko still appears in the register as the head of the LLC. The name of the new chief executive officer has not been publicly disclosed.
Ownership structure and ties to monobank
The main legal entity of the chain is LLC "SMARTASS" (registration code 42162794), registered at the address: 41A Zhylyanska Street, Kyiv. The company's authorised capital is 6.5 million hryvnia, divided into five equal shares of 20% each.
Among the company's participants are co-founder Kateryna Kuzmenko, several individuals, and LLC "Hold Holding". The history of ownership changes includes monobank co-founders Mykhailo Rohalskyi and Oleg Horokhovskyi, who are listed as "removed beneficiaries". Regarding Dmytro Dubilet, aggregator data contradicts each other: the Opendatabot platform lists him among removed beneficiaries, while UBKI lists him among current ones. Meanwhile, Dmytro Dubilet himself stated back in 2019 that he is not an owner of Smartass.
Financial performance and international expansion
The company's economic situation demonstrates instability. The LLC's revenue grew from 6 million hryvnia in 2020 to 18.4 million in 2023, resulting in a profit of 3.1 million hryvnia. However, a downward trend was observed in 2024: revenue amounted to 14.9 million hryvnia, and the company incurred losses of 2.9 million hryvnia. The official staff of the enterprise consists of 6 employees.
Outside Ukraine, the network operates through separate legal structures. In Poland, the company SMARTASS sp. z o.o. (2023) is registered with an authorised capital of 100,000 zloty; its participants hold shares of 75% and 25%. In Bulgaria, operations are conducted through the company "SOUL FIT" Ltd under a classic franchise model. There is also a franchise project on the island of Bali, with investments amounting to 1.2 million euros.
The registers contain no data on the company's participation in public procurement. If representatives of Smartass wish to comment on changes in management and ownership structure, a response will be published.
