Presidential Chancellery maintains status quo

Spokesperson for the President of Poland, Rafal Leszkiewicz, announced that the head of state, Karol Nawrocki, does not intend to withdraw the invitation for representatives of the 'Confederation of the Polish Crown' party to attend the National Security Council meeting. This decision was made despite categorical objections from the governing coalition.

Leszkiewicz disclosed this information on 29 October in a post on the social media platform X.

Response to calls from heads of state institutions

According to the spokesperson, his statement was a reaction to demands from Sejm Speaker Wlodzimierz Czarzasty and Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski. These officials called for barring 'Confederation' representatives from participating in the meetings of the advisory body.

Leszkiewicz emphasised that, in accordance with current legal norms, every member of the Polish parliament has a legal right of access to information marked 'secret'.

«Вже багато років існує добра традиція запрошувати на засідання Ради національної безпеки голів парламентських фракцій та груп. Якщо коаліція, яка перебуває при владі вже 3 роки, має будь-які сумніви щодо присутності окремих депутатів на засіданні РНБ, то їй слід змінити чинне законодавство» (For many years, there has been a good tradition of inviting heads of parliamentary factions and groups to National Security Council meetings. If the coalition, which has been in power for 3 years, has any doubts about the presence of certain deputies at an NSC meeting, it should change the current legislation), — the spokesperson stated.

Accusations of propaganda and the Council's role

The President's spokesperson accused members of the government of organising 'yet another propagandistic spectacle' around this issue.

It is worth noting that the Polish National Security Council functions as an advisory body to the President, who independently determines its composition. Its participants include the heads of the Sejm and the Senate, members of the government, representatives of the Presidential Chancellery, military generals, as well as leaders of parliamentary factions.
