Diplomat reveals content of intimidating messages
Fedir Shandor, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Hungary, shared his experience of receiving threats directed personally at him and his family members in an interview with Radio NV. According to him, for a certain period, messages from various numbers were sent to his mobile phone, containing direct calls for violence.
The diplomat noted that he had previously avoided publicly discussing these incidents, but the situation had reached a critical limit. «Накипіло. Принижували, погрожували. Я ніколи не показував, що писали мені з різних телефонів на мій номер прямі погрози — відрубати голову, зарізати, ґвалтувати моїх дітей» ("It boiled over. They humiliated me, threatened me. I never showed what was written to me from different phones to my number — direct threats — to behead me, to slit my throat, to rape my children"), Shandor emphasised.
Reaction of the Hungarian Prime Minister and the Ambassador's position
Describing the atmosphere that prevailed in Hungary during Viktor Orban's leadership of the country, Shandor recalled the Prime Minister's reaction to incidents involving the Ukrainian diplomat. According to the ambassador, when Orban was asked how they had treated the Ukrainian representative, he replied: «Політика — це ж не балет» ("Politics is not ballet").
Fedir Shandor commented on this phrase, emphasising his dedication to service: «Я згодний з ним, політика — це не балет, я не балерина, я сержант Збройних сил України, відповідно, виконую наказ головнокомандувача і верховного головнокомандувача» ("I agree with him, politics is not ballet, I am not a ballerina, I am a sergeant of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, accordingly, I carry out the orders of the Commander-in-Chief and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief").
Interaction with law enforcement agencies
The diplomat also spoke about his actions after receiving the threats. He contacted the law enforcement agencies and provided them with evidence in the form of saved intimidating messages. However, Shandor refused to give official testimony. He explained his position by stating that, as a civil servant, he is under the protection of the state.
