Europe chooses format for talks with Putin: five leaders' names on the list

European countries are actively seeking an appropriate figure to conduct dialogue with Vladimir Putin. The main objective remains finding ways to end the war. According to media reports, five senior politicians are mentioned as key candidates for this responsible role.

Who is being considered as a possible representative of Europe

The list includes current heads of state and government:

  • Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni;
  • Finnish President Alexander Stubb;
  • Czech President Petr Pavel;
  • Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen;
  • Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Rejection of the single-leader model

The concept of appointing a specific individual to represent the interests of the European continent in negotiations is not new. However, previous initiatives to select a single leader capable of gaining support from all capitals have not yielded positive results.

Consequently, the option of creating a group of negotiating leaders is now being considered. This approach aims to avoid intra-continental disputes and competition between countries over who should be the main voice of Europe.
