Passenger plane collides with military helicopter in Washington

A plane crash occurred at Washington International Airport – a passenger plane collided with a military helicopter while on approach for landing. The airliner lost control after the impact and crashed into the Potomac River. According to the latest data, at least 19 people have died.

Timeline of events

According to radar records, the plane suddenly changed course and collided with a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter conducting a military training flight. After the impact, both aircraft lost control.

There were 60 passengers and crew on board the plane, and three military pilots in the helicopter. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, but no survivors have been found so far.

US authorities have already stated that the disaster is not linked to terrorism – this theory is not being considered. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have launched an investigation.

Airport closure

Washington Airport is temporarily closed – all flights have been cancelled until the morning of 31 January.
