Ukraine plans to acquire Italian air defence systems using frozen Russian assets

Ukraine is considering the purchase of Italian air defence systems and their ammunition, utilising revenue generated from frozen Russian assets. 

This issue was the main topic of talks between Ukrainian Deputy Defence Minister, Brigadier General Anatoliy Klychko, and representatives of the Defence Industry Agency of the Italian Ministry of Defence.

Discussion details

During the meeting, the parties discussed mechanisms that would allow funds obtained from the management of Russian Federation assets to be directed towards strengthening Ukraine’s defence system. Particular attention was paid to the technical specifications and operational availability of Italian air defence systems.
