Industrial-scale financing

Germany has committed to financing the acquisition of several tens of thousands of interceptor drones for the needs of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. The relevant decision was enshrined in the winter package of military support, the press service of Quantum Systems reported.

The initiative to purchase unmanned air defence systems was announced by German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz during his visit to Kyiv on 4 October. The funds will be directed towards the production of devices developed by the Quantum WIY Industries team. This entity is a joint project between Ukrainian company WIY Drones and German partner Quantum Systems.

Expanding production capacity in Ukraine

As explained by the press service, the drones will be manufactured directly in Ukraine. This approach will allow scaling the production of interceptors at a time when the need for protection against Russian strike drones is growing. Thanks to this order, the volumes of production for interception systems already being used in combat operations will increase.

During his stay in the Ukrainian capital, Merz also held a meeting with representatives of the German company. The parties discussed plans to increase the production of UAVs in Ukraine, which is a response to the intensification of Russian attacks using jet-powered drones.

"Ukraine needs interceptor drones on an industrial scale. By expanding production in Ukraine, we can respond more quickly to the urgent threat and at the same time build industrial capacities that will also strengthen Germany and its allies," Sven Kruck, co-managing director of Quantum Systems, is quoted as saying.

Strategic cooperation with Fire Point

In addition, the company announced the signing of a memorandum between Quantum Systems and Ukrainian company Fire Point. The document was concluded during a round table with representatives of the defence-industrial complex, attended by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"The companies will jointly develop unmanned technologies and means of countering modern air threats," the press service added.
