In 2024, gambling regulators worldwide imposed fines on operators totalling $184.4 million, according to Gambling Industry News.
The highest number of violations was recorded in Spain, where 15 companies received fines. Of these, 13 operators were conducting business without the required licence. In addition to Spain, Australia and the Netherlands made up the top three countries with the strictest measures.
Notably, the total amount of fines in 2024 decreased significantly compared to the previous year. In 2023, fines amounted to $442.6 million, which was 2.5 times higher. At that time, the most severe sanctions were applied in Australia, the UK and Greece.
