Belarus appears to be actively preparing for the elections scheduled for 25 January. Moreover, the preparation is taking a form that is not entirely conventional for many. Lukashenko has presumably taken past experience and his own mistakes into account and decided not to repeat them.

To minimise the disclosure of information regarding the election process and prevent mass protests, he thought of nothing better than to start blocking YouTube and Telegram.

Information about the blocking began to come from citizens of the country. Currently, YouTube and Telegram are only accessible via VPN. Mass complaints about this have appeared on social media.
