Gas stations in Ukraine may cease operations from 1 March – Yuzhanina

New requirements, but no technical readiness

From 1 March 2024, all gas stations in Ukraine may face the threat of closure due to the inability to meet new requirements set by the Ministry of Finance. This was warned by People’s Deputy Nina Yuzhanina.

According to Ministry of Finance Resolution No. 601, from the beginning of March only cash registers (Fiscal Receipts) that generate fiscal receipts according to the updated standard are permitted. However, at present no cash register in the country meets these requirements.

What is the problem?

To update the software of cash registers, it is necessary to approve a new data transmission protocol from cash registers to the tax authority. But this process is blocked at the level of the National Bank, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Tax Service. As a result, gas stations and other enterprises using cash registers will not be able to legally issue receipts.

According to Yuzhanina, if the situation is not resolved in the near future, from 1 March gas stations will find themselves in a legal vacuum, and their owners risk facing mass fines or forced suspension of operations.

Gas station owners and business representatives are awaiting a reaction from the government. If the Ministry of Finance, the National Bank, and the State Tax Service fail to agree on the new protocol in time, disruptions in operations are possible not only for gas stations but also for many other enterprises using cash registers.
