US Vice President JD Vance concluded that the war with Iran was the cause of the Republican Party's defeat in the mid-term elections to the US Congress held in 2026.

Loss of support from part of the electorate

According to the Vice President, some voters who supported Donald Trump and Vance himself in 2024 changed their political preferences. In the next electoral cycle, these people cast their votes for candidates from the Democratic Party.

«Головна проблема полягає в тому, що багато людей, які голосували за Трампа і Венса у 2024 році, у 2026 році проголосували за демократів» (The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump and Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026), Vance wrote.

Main demands of voters

The Vice President said that he asked voters who had moved away from the Republicans what exactly could make them support the political force again. According to him, most of the answers boiled down to four main demands.

  • cessation of hostilities;
  • focus on the cost of living and inflation levels;
  • priority given to US national interests;
  • change in relations with Israel.

Vance emphasised that it was precisely these aspects that most concerned those who had previously been supporters of the Republicans but later changed their choice in favour of their opponents.
