Night attack on Russian defence industry facility
A series of powerful explosions was recorded in the area of Serpukhov city in Moscow Oblast on the night of 22 October. According to monitoring data, the region was subjected to an attack using missiles and reactive unmanned aerial vehicles. During the military operation, an air raid alert was sounded in the city, and UAVs were observed in the airspace.
The main target for the long-range strike assets of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was the 75th arsenal. This is a major enterprise of the Russian defence industry complex specialising in the technical maintenance, major repair, restoration and storage of military equipment.
Repair of air defence systems
A key area of activity for this facility is work on air defence systems. According to official data from the state corporation Rostec, the enterprise's units are directly involved in the repair and maintenance of Buk-M1 and Buk-M2 surface-to-air missile systems, as well as self-propelled units and components of the S-300V surface-to-air missile system.
Significance of the strike for enemy logistics
The facility in Serpukhov has previously attracted the attention of independent OSINT researchers. In particular, on 29 March 2024, an analyst known by the pseudonym Jompy noted that the 75th Arsenal is the only storage base for Russian surface-to-air missile systems confirmed and identified by him.
Striking this node deals a significant blow to the logistics and restoration potential of Russian air defence assets. The scale of damage and the consequences of the strike are being clarified. OSINT researchers note that details on the extent of the destruction will emerge after the publication of fresh satellite imagery.
