Pina Picherno, who holds the position of Vice-President of the European Parliament, decided to end her hunger strike. This was announced by the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada, Dmytro Lubinets.

Conversation with the Ombudsman as a key moment

According to Dmytro Lubinets, he held a conversation with Pina Picherno on the evening of the previous day. During the discussion, the Ombudsman urged the politician to stop the action, citing positive dynamics in resolving the humanitarian crisis in the temporarily occupied Oleshky.

“Yesterday evening, I had a conversation with Pina Picherno, Vice-President of the European Parliament, and urged her to end her hunger strike in view of the progress achieved in resolving the humanitarian crisis in the temporarily occupied Oleshky,” the Ombudsman stated.

Health threat and results achieved

Dmytro Lubinets noted that continuing the hunger strike began to pose a serious threat to Pina Picherno’s life and health. At the same time, significant progress was made in ensuring the provision of humanitarian aid to local residents and creating the preconditions for the evacuation of the civilian population.

Role of the First Lady of the US in reaching agreements

During the conversation, the Ombudsman briefed the European Parliament vice-president on the details of the agreements reached regarding a local ceasefire. He emphasised that these agreements are to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of the civilian population.

“During our conversation, I informed her about the agreements reached on a local ceasefire, which was facilitated by the First Lady of the US, Melania Trump. These agreements are to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of the civilian population,” he added.
