An unusual installation has appeared on the grounds of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Danish artist Jens Galschiøt installed a gilded sculpture depicting US President Donald Trump in the nude. The appearance of this work was reported by CNN and DW.
The piece is titled "Orange Plague" or "King of Injustice". The 2.5-metre-tall statue is covered in 23-carat gold. It depicts Trump in a pose where he sits on the back of a frail man. In one hand, the American leader holds the scales of justice, and in the other, a golf club.
An information plaque is placed next to the monument, explaining the meaning of the composition: "The King of Injustice" sits on the back of a person bending under the weight. Below is a quote: "I would do anything to help him. Except get off his back".
According to the author, through this work he accuses Trump of obstructing efforts to counter global climate change.
The sculpture was installed on a walkway connecting two European Parliament buildings. It will remain on public display until Thursday, 8 October.
The project was initiated by Per Clausen, a left-wing Danish Member of the European Parliament, who invited Jens Galschiøt to install the work. The politician stated that he is not concerned about a possible reaction from Donald Trump to this event.
"If someone is so fragile that they cannot accept this sculpture being displayed in the European Parliament, they have no business on the world stage," Per Clausen emphasised.
