Russia replaces Kyiv cutlet name with 'new' dish featuring butter

Russian restaurateurs continue the practice of replacing the names of well-known dishes to hide their true origins. It recently emerged that the globally popular Kyiv cutlet has been officially "renamed" in the Russian Federation.

"Autumn novelty" for 270 rubles

This was stated by Russian journalist Oleksandr Yunashev. According to him, a menu item titled "cutlets with butter" appeared at one of the establishments, priced at 270 rubles. However, as it turned out, this new name conceals an ordinary Kyiv cutlet. Its classic recipe and list of ingredients remained unchanged.

Attempt to rewrite history

Meanwhile, propagandistic Telegram channels and social media are actively trying to appropriate the history of this dish. Supporters of the Russian narrative mention St Petersburg's "Novomikhailovskaya" cutlets, which, according to their claims, appeared at the beginning of the last century.

However, historically, the dish gained worldwide popularity specifically as a symbol of Ukrainian cuisine. Attempts to rename it in Russia are a continuation of the trend of inventing "analogues" for famous Ukrainian dishes.
