Night fire destroys warehouse with items for Ukrainians

A major fire broke out in Frankfurt, Germany, at 2:30 am on the night before Friday. The flames engulfed the grounds of a school in the Dornbusch district, where the warehouse of the "Frankfurt for Ukraine" initiative was located. The facility stored items intended for transfer to Ukraine, the dispatch of which was planned within the next few days.

Rescuers worked at the scene for almost a day

Firefighting operations lasted 19 hours. More than 300 rescuers were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire. The exact extent of the material damage has not yet been established.

Police consider the theory of intentional arson

German law enforcement are investigating the circumstances of the incident. The possibility of intentional arson is not officially ruled out. To ensure an effective investigation, the state protection unit has been brought into the case.

Initiative reported threats online

Jumas Medoff, a spokesperson for the initiative, described the event as a catastrophe. He noted that a significant number of hostile comments had appeared on social media over the past weeks. The authors of these messages called for the collected items to be thrown away instead of being sent to Ukraine.
