The Security Service of Ukraine has completed the pre-trial investigation of a criminal case against a resident of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, who is suspected of preparing a terrorist act at an industrial facility. The indictment has already been submitted to the court. If the charges are confirmed, the defendant faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Detention during the manufacture of explosives
According to the investigation materials, a fitter from one of the local enterprises was recruited to cooperate with a Russian security service. In March of this year, law enforcement officers detained the man in the city of Kamianske. He was caught red-handed while assembling a homemade explosive device in his own apartment.
Planned explosion at production facilities
It has been established that the suspect was tasked with placing an explosive device under the pipes in one of the workshops of a chemical plant. The device's design included the use of 1.5 kg of plasticite. The leadership of the Russian security services planned to initiate the detonation remotely while a work shift was in progress at the enterprise, with the aim of maximising the number of casualties.
Search for "easy money" and collection of intelligence
The investigation established that the man was looking for a way to earn money by browsing thematic Telegram channels. It was there that the FSB made contact with him. Initially, the agent carried out intelligence tasks: he gathered information about local Territorial Centres for Recruitment and Social Support, military facilities, and places where people gathered. He also tracked the vehicles and residential addresses of Ukrainian servicemen and their families, whom the Russians planned to eliminate.
Provision of material components
Later, the handler provided the suspect with the coordinates of a cache in a tree belt. From there, the agent retrieved the explosive substance and an electric detonator necessary for preparing the explosion at the plant.
During the detention and the searches conducted, components of the explosive device, as well as four mobile phones used by the defendant to communicate with Russian security services, were seized.
The man is charged with high treason committed under martial law, as well as preparing to commit a terrorist act.
