Glass and technology instead of protection: infrastructure priorities

The Poltava City Council has signed a contract worth 5.9 million hryvnias to upgrade the first five of 24 planned bus stops. The new infrastructure includes the installation of glass pavilions, LED displays, city lights, video surveillance cameras, and Wi-Fi wireless internet.

Security postponed: 66 shelters still not purchased

Against the backdrop of investments in bus stops, the issue of residents' safety remains unresolved. Despite the previously identified need for 66 mobile protective structures with a total value of 132 million hryvnias, the corresponding procurement procedures have not yet been announced. As of 6 November, tenders have not been initiated, although the annual maintenance of these facilities is estimated at 264,000 hryvnias.

The demand to install protective structures was voiced by 398 residents of Poltava. Acting city mayor Kateryna Yamshchikova promised at the beginning of the year to launch tender procedures after coordinating details with the State Emergency Service (SES). However, this has not happened to date.

Initial stage: Red Cross assistance

While city authorities postpone the large-scale purchase, the city received its first four concrete shelters from the Red Cross. These structures are planned to be located near the Public Service Centre, in parks, and at an intersection.
