Exposing the data leak mechanism

Oleksandr Abakumov, head of the detective unit of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU), disclosed information regarding the transfer of confidential materials from an Austrian investigation to representatives of an organised crime group known as the Khimprom drug cartel.

According to Abakumov, members of the group, who were under the command of Andriy Osypov (known as Kryminal, detained last summer), were able to leave Ukrainian territory without hindrance. While in Austria, they brutally beat a man in an office in Vienna, filmed the incident for a report, and returned home.

Actions by Ukrainian officials

Abakumov explained that after the criminals returned, Ukrainian law enforcement officers participated in a meeting with their European counterparts. During this event, Austrian law enforcement expressed specific interest in Kryminal's activities.

«Наші співробітники фотографують ці дані і пересилають «Криміналу» зі словами: «Дивись, тебе вже шукають в Європі»» (Our officers photograph this data and send it to Kryminal with the words: "Look, they are already looking for you in Europe"), said the head of the NABU unit, describing the course of events.

Thus, according to Abakumov's version, Ukrainian law enforcement directly informed the criminals that they were being sought in Europe.
