Reorganisation of territorial defence unit

One of the brigades of Poland's territorial defence forces is undergoing significant changes: by the end of the current year, it is to be converted into the Warmian-Masurian Border Defence Brigade. The new formation will receive tasks related to defending the border adjacent to Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast.

Difference between protection and defence

Polish military leadership emphasises that the functions of the future unit will be of a defensive, rather than protective, nature.

Timelines for achieving combat readiness

According to published data, the reorganisation process of the unit is to be completed by the end of 2026. Meanwhile, the new brigade will achieve full combat readiness within the next two years. The process of re-equipping the servicemen who will join the formation is already underway.
