Occupants carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure facilities during the night. According to the press centre of the Ministry of Energy, as a result of the strikes, consumers in five regions were left without electricity by morning: Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, and Kharkiv regions.
Network status and damage
The ministry noted that extensive damage to electricity transmission and distribution lines has been recorded. Networks ensuring the transmission of current from nuclear power plants to the capital and central regions of the country were damaged. Despite this destruction, energy workers have already managed to restore power for a portion of users.
«Маємо чисельні пошкодження мереж передачі та розподілу. Також були пошкоджені мережі, які передають електроенергію з АЕС до столичного та центрального регіонів України. Попри це енергетикам вже вдалось відновити електропостачання для частини споживачів», - йдеться у повідомленні. ("We have extensive damage to transmission and distribution networks. Networks transmitting electricity from nuclear power plants to the capital and central regions of Ukraine were also damaged. Despite this, energy workers have already managed to restore electricity supply for a portion of consumers," the statement reads.)
Difficulties in the capital region
Many energy facilities in the capital region sustained significant damage. This has significantly complicated the process of transmitting electricity to Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as limiting supply capabilities for a number of neighbouring regions. The Ministry of Energy explained that restoring such a volume of damaged equipment takes time.
Outage schedules and repair work
In most regions of Ukraine, hourly electricity outage schedules are currently in effect, while power limitation schedules are applied to industrial enterprises. Since the enemy does not cease attacks, the electricity supply situation can change very rapidly throughout the day, sometimes even several times an hour.
«Енергетики цілодобово роблять усе можливе, щоб електроенергія повернулася в наші домівки. У всіх постраждалих регіонах, де дозволяє безпекова ситуація, тривають ремонтні роботи. Енергетики працюють у посиленому режимі. Роботи затримують постійні повітряні тривоги. Але щойно лунає відбій - енергетики одразу повертаються до відновлення пошкодженого обладнання», - додали в Міненерго. ("Energy workers are doing everything possible around the clock to ensure electricity returns to our homes. Repair work is ongoing in all affected regions where the security situation permits. Energy workers are operating in enhanced mode. Constant air raid alerts are delaying the work. But as soon as the all-clear sounds, energy workers immediately return to restoring damaged equipment," the Ministry of Energy added.)
