First Lady of the US speaks about negotiations

Melania Trump publicly commented on the ceasefire initiative for the first time. According to her, she managed to reach an agreement between Russia and Ukraine regarding the city of Oleshky in Kherson region, which was facing the threat of famine.

“We talked. We signed an agreement,” the First Lady stated.

She emphasised that, as part of her activities, she held dialogues with both Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin.

Donald Trump’s comments

US President Donald Trump noted the effectiveness of his wife’s work. In his assessment, she is doing better than the official representatives — Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

“I think she is doing better than the professionals right now. She achieved a ceasefire. It is about children, about people, about the elderly,” the head of state said.

Questions regarding the Vatican’s role

Melania Trump also thanked Pope Leo XIV for his support. This came against the backdrop of discussions about the pontiff’s role in negotiations on a local ceasefire for the delivery of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians.

It is known that the Pope contacted Putin on 16 October, and Zelensky on 19 October, calling for a ceasefire. These conversations took place a few days before Melania Trump announced the reached agreement.

“It is great that there is the Pope’s support; the ceasefire regime begins on 27 October, and I hope everything will go according to plan,” the First Lady reported.

Democrats accused Melania Trump of claiming the Pope’s merits for herself, however, both Russia and Ukraine confirmed her participation in reaching this agreement.

Possible visit to Ukraine

While talking to journalists in Palm Beach after the early Congressional elections, Melania Trump answered questions about plans to visit Ukraine to see the ceasefire in action.

“We will see,” she replied.

Donald Trump added: “Maybe it will happen.”
