Budapest’s reaction to Kyiv’s decision

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Madyar expressed satisfaction regarding the update of education legislation in Ukraine. In his opinion, these steps will significantly simplify the process of learning the native language for the Hungarian community in Ukraine.

The Hungarian government leader made the corresponding statement on his public Facebook page.

Details of legislative changes

According to Madyar, the Ukrainian parliament adopted, and President Volodymyr Zelensky signed, the relevant amendment to the Law of Ukraine “On Education”. This document, as noted by the Prime Minister of Hungary, will create better conditions for the use of the native language by Hungarian children in the territory of Zakarpattia.

The decision of the Verkhovna Rada was adopted on 12 October.

Thanks for negotiations

In comments to his post, Madyar thanked all participants in the process. He highlighted those who «брав участь у цих важливих і успішних переговорах» (took part in these important and successful negotiations).
