Low likelihood of Ukrainian leader's participation in anniversary events

Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Madyar stated that he does not expect a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Budapest this month. This position was stated despite Kyiv having received an invitation to the events.

As noted in a report by Euronews, over 100 politicians have been invited to the state ceremonies, which will take place on October 23. The events are dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

Comments in an interview and the absence of the Russian leader

On Saturday, in an interview with 444.hu, Madyar emphasised that Zelensky's participation in these events is unlikely. It is also known that Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was not invited to these ceremonies.

Discussion of further meetings at the EU summit

These comments came after Madyar and Zelensky met during the EU summit in Brussels on Friday. During the conversation, the parties discussed the possibility of another meeting before the end of the current year.

«Або я поїду до Києва, і звідти ми разом вирушимо до Берегова, або президент приїде до Будапешта, і звідти ми поїдемо до Берегова» ("Either I will go to Kyiv, and from there we will set off together to Berehove, or the president will come to Budapest, and from there we will go to Berehove"), Madyar said.

Hungary's position on support and future cooperation

After meeting with Zelensky in Brussels, the Hungarian prime minister published a post on social media platform X, stating that he had expressed "full solidarity" with Ukraine, which continues to stand up to Russian aggression.

According to Madyar, the parties agreed to continue negotiations at the ministerial level, particularly regarding improving the situation of national minorities in both countries. It was also agreed that it is in the interests of both states to lay a new foundation for political and economic relations.
