Scheme for obtaining undue benefit

In Kyiv, a 33-year-old lawyer was charged with organising a scheme to obtain undue benefit. According to the investigation, the woman received $14,500 from a 36-year-old man registered with the Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support. She offered to take this money in exchange for helping to remove the client from the wanted list and arranging subsequent fictitious employment.

As noted by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the lawyer promised to influence officials of the Territorial Centre for Recruitment and Social Support. The aim was to have the man removed from the wanted list and then arrange his employment at an enterprise, which would provide grounds for a mobilisation exemption for a period of 10 months. In this case, the liable person was not actually required to perform labour duties.

Timeline of fund transfers and detention

The financial agreement was divided into several stages. Initially, the lawyer received $4,000 for promising to influence the decision of the Territorial Centre. After that, she promised to arrange fictitious employment at an enterprise for an additional $10,500.

Law enforcement officers documented the transfer of the initial $4,000, and later another $7,500. The suspect was detained while receiving the final part of the agreed sum — $3,000. She was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Charges and preventive measure

Under the procedural supervision of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the woman was charged with receiving undue benefit for influencing the decision of an official authorised to perform state functions. In addition, she is accused of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a special period.

The court ruled to select a preventive measure in the form of detention. The suspect is permitted to post bail for release.
