The condition for final victory
Russian opposition figure and former world chess champion Garry Kasparov formulated the key condition for ending the conflict in an interview with Radio Svoboda. According to him, the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine must end only when the Ukrainian flag is raised again over Sevastopol.
«Це припинення можливості путіна вести війну. Війна має закінчитися українським прапором у Севастополі. Україна повинна отримувати необхідну підтримку доти, доки ресурси путіна для продовження війни не будуть виснажені» (This is ending Putin's ability to wage war. The war must end with the Ukrainian flag in Sevastopol. Ukraine must receive the necessary support until Putin's resources for continuing the war are exhausted), Kasparov emphasised.
Two scenarios for the development of events
The politician stressed that Russia's resources for waging a full-scale war are limited. In his view, there are only two possible scenarios: either Ukraine will not withstand the strikes on the civilian population and will "collapse", or it will hold out, which will lead to the fall of Vladimir Putin's regime.
«Треба робити все можливе, щоб режим впав. Це не означає, що наступного дня в росії стане добре. Але крах режиму завжди відкриває вікно можливостей» (Everything possible must be done to make the regime fall. This does not mean that things will get better in Russia the next day. But the collapse of the regime always opens a window of opportunity), the opposition figure added.
Position on Crimea and allies
Kasparov also emphasised his stance on Ukraine's territorial integrity. He noted that for him, the return of the Ukrainian flag specifically to Sevastopol is the key symbol of the final defeat of Russia's imperial idea.
«Людина, яка не може вимовити слова «Крим — український», не є його союзником» (A person who cannot say the words "Crimea is Ukrainian" is not its ally), Kasparov concluded.
