Logistical difficulties in fuel supply
Plans to export Russian diesel fuel to the United States have encountered obstacles. According to the Financial Times, two of the three tankers scheduled to deliver the cargo have already changed their routes.
The Russian vessel Talisman has headed for the Mediterranean Sea and is currently off the coast of Algeria. Another tanker, Leruo, sailing under the flag of Sierra Leone, changed course on 2 November and is now heading towards Brazil.
Status of the third vessel
The third tanker, Agioi Fanendes, continues moving towards the US but is transmitting an "awaiting orders" signal. This indicates that the vessel does not yet have a confirmed port of discharge. According to data from analytics firm Kpler, it may also change its initial route to New York.
Meanwhile, another sanctioned tanker, Beast, which loaded Russian fuel at the port of Primorsk on 27 October, continues its journey to the US Atlantic coast.
Opposition in US political circles
As noted by the Financial Times, the agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin on the supply of Russian diesel has met political resistance in the United States. Opposition to these plans is coming not only from representatives of the Democratic Party but also from a part of the Republican Party.
Specifically, New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill has already warned port operators about potential sanctions in the event of receiving Russian fuel. This creates additional obstacles to the implementation of plans to supply it to the US.
