Alarm in parliament after leadership change
Following Ruslan Khrachenko's dismissal from the post of prosecutor general, some MPs began to worry about the possibility of the head of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), Oleksandr Klymenko, being appointed to the role. As the publication "Ukrainska Pravda" reports, citing an unnamed source, these fears were the reason why the session of the relevant Verkhovna Rada committee, to which Khrachenko was invited, lasted excessively long.
Fear of criminal prosecution
According to journalists, after Khrachenko's dismissal, a "panicky fear" was observed among parliamentarians that Klymenko might head the Prosecutor General's Office as acting head. For a certain group of MPs, particularly those involved in criminal proceedings regarding payments "in envelopes," such a leadership change could serve as a signal for a swift investigation and criminal prosecution.
Tactics of delaying the process
It was precisely due to these risks, according to "Ukrainska Pravda," that MPs maximally delayed the work of the Rada's law enforcement committee. Previously, sources for the publication also noted that there was anxiety in the committee that Ruslan Khrachenko might "say too much" during his speech at the session.
