According to The New York Times, Democrats in the US House of Representatives and the Senate intend to launch extensive investigations. Their targets will be President Donald Trump, members of his family and administration officials. The main focus of the checks is the possible use of state positions for personal enrichment or to evade legal liability.
Cryptocurrencies and ties with the UAE
Donald Trump's financial income during his second presidential term has increased several times over, largely due to activities in the cryptocurrency sector. Last year, the relevant enterprises generated at least $1.4 billion in revenue, creating an unprecedented potential conflict of interest.
Most likely, one of the main objects of attention will be World Liberty Financial, the main cryptocurrency company of the Trump family. Last year, an investment firm linked to the United Arab Emirates acquired a significant stake in this company. Four months after this, representatives of the Emirates signed an agreement with the Trump administration on the supply of valuable computer chips, despite objections from some officials responsible for US national security.
In addition, Trump earned hundreds of millions of dollars from the sale of his own $TRUMP meme coin, which is usually considered a digital collectible asset, as well as World Liberty company tokens. Among the buyers were foreign organisations and companies that simultaneously sought support from the US presidential administration.
Actions of family members and son-in-law
Another important direction for future investigations, Democrats say, is the activity of the president's eldest son, Donald Trump Jr. His actions have already raised questions from Democrats in Congress. In particular, Trump Jr. allowed a Russian businessman linked to the Kremlin to allocate hundreds of thousands of dollars to finance a party for his wedding in the Bahamas this year.
Congressman Jamie Raskin initiated a review of the activities of venture capital firm 1789 Capital, of which Donald Trump Jr. is a senior partner. Some companies in 1789 Capital's investment portfolio received state funding, while others benefited from the Trump administration's policies.
Jared Kushner, the US president's son-in-law, also fell within the scope of attention. Although Kushner is not officially part of the Trump administration, he played the role of the president's main representative in negotiations regarding the settlement of the war with Iran and the Russian-Ukrainian war. Congressman Jamie Raskin called on him to withdraw from these negotiation processes. Among the reasons, he cited a potential conflict of interest related to Kushner's private investment company, Affinity Partners, which received funds from foreign states interested in the outcome of these conflicts.
Elon Musk and Epstein's circle
The heads of the groups that will coordinate the investigations also plan to examine the activities of Trump's close corporate leaders and associates of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
In addition, Democratic Party representatives in Congress committees proposed holding Elon Musk, the former head of the Department of Government Efficiency, accountable for the liquidation of the US Agency for International Development last year.
«Шукайте адвоката» ("Find a lawyer"), advised Congressman Robert Garcia, a Democrat from California, who will head the influential House Oversight Committee.
