To leave or to stay? What awaits refugees beyond Ukraine
Over the past two weeks, more than one million residents have left Ukraine. This primarily concerns women and children.
The majority are fleeing the war. However, there are also those who have decided to take the opportunity to simply change their country of residence to a more comfortable one.
At the same time, many are convinced that they will be welcomed with open arms in EU countries, provided with good free housing, and paid benefits. In reality, the situation is not so rosy.
At present, Poland offers some of the best conditions. Local volunteers are trying to ensure that refugees have everything they need. The situation is somewhat more complex in Romania. As a result, refugees are looking for other options.
Some are heading to Spain. However, the country turned out to be completely unprepared to receive refugees. Local authorities do not have a clear action plan. There is no point in counting on benefits for refugees either. Moreover, few people think about taxation. Spain is very strict on this matter. Refugees will have to pay taxes on all their income. It does not matter where the funds come from.
A similar situation exists in other EU countries.
Therefore, Ukrainian citizens should carefully weigh all factors and thoroughly research the information before choosing a particular country.
