Ukraine proposes ban on selling energy drinks to minors

A bill aimed at restricting the sale of energy drinks to individuals under 18 has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada. The document also provides for new requirements for the composition of these beverages.

Restrictions for minors

The bill's initiators propose to completely ban the sale of energy drinks to teenagers, citing their negative impact on health. According to the authors of the initiative, high levels of caffeine and other stimulants can cause cardiovascular diseases, sleep disorders and increased anxiety in young people.

If the law is adopted, sellers will be required to ask for documents confirming the buyer's age.

Control over beverage composition

Another innovation concerns regulating the composition of energy drinks. Manufacturers will be prohibited from adding substances that stimulate the central nervous system in quantities exceeding maximum permissible limits.

According to the bill's developers, such measures will help reduce potential health risks for consumers and make the market more transparent.
