The cost of chocolate in Ukraine could rise significantly in the near future. This was stated by Andriy Bondar, a representative of the company "Cocoa Club".
Bondar noted that the price increase is linked to the rising cost of key ingredients, such as cocoa butter and cocoa powder. If the current price of a chocolate bar is 40–50 hryvnias, it could reach 80–85 hryvnias within a month.
One of the main causes of the market crisis is the ageing of cocoa plantations in Africa — the main region for raw material supply. It takes 3–4 years to restore yields.
Experts predict that the situation in the chocolate market will remain tense until African producers modernise their plantations and increase production volumes.
Consumers may have to reconsider their habits or look for alternatives amid rising prices.
