The National Bank of Ukraine has announced plans for a gradual transition from the dollar to the euro as the primary foreign currency. According to representatives of the regulator, the process will be carried out smoothly and imperceptibly to citizens, taking into account the current situation in the country.
The main motivation for this step is Ukraine's desire to integrate into the European Union. The NBU emphasised that, in order to access European markets, both exporters and importers need to orient themselves towards the currency in which the main operations within the EU are conducted.
At present, the National Bank does not specify exact timelines for the transition. However, officials stress that this is a step towards an inevitable future linked to Ukraine's full membership in the European Union.
Economic experts note that the switch from the dollar to the euro could facilitate financial settlements and strengthen economic ties with the EU. However, given the ongoing military actions, the process will require a long time and careful preparation.
The transition to the euro is viewed as a strategic decision that, in the long term, should bolster economic stability and accelerate Ukraine's Euro-integration.
