There are many oddities again in our border region.
Strange people speaking Russian have appeared in the town. I deliberately highlighted the "o" to emphasise the accent. Clearly not locals. In civilian clothes. They don't bother anyone. They blend into the crowd. They take many photos. Mainly real estate, schools, kindergartens. They are also interested in rural property. Strange. It is all very strange…
There are no banks in the town. People cash out money at our print shop andthe former jewellery shop "Zlata", which is near the central market. You go there with a card from any bank, 8% of the amount, plus a 30 hryvnia commission. And you get your thousand hryvnias. True, previously you could withdraw any amount, but now only a thousand per withdrawal. So, to withdraw three thousand hryvnias, you have to pay a 30 hryvnia commission for each transaction, plus 8% of each withdrawn amount. But since there are only two cash-out centres in the town, the queues are huge. Simply colossal. People line up from the night and stand in the frost for half a day.
Imagine the scene. A queue stretching about three hundred metres near the entrance with the sign "Jewellery Shop Zlata". Locals know that they don't sell gold there, but simply cash out money. But only locals know that.
An ordinary person walks along this queue with a "Nikon" camera and, talking on the phone, tells the listener:
- You know, it's a rather peculiar little town. Yes, yes, I didn't expect it. Decent houses, intercoms at the entrances, satellite dishes. The private sector, I'll tell you, is quite, quite good. Listen, I drove around a couple of villages, can you imagine, asphalt to the village, houses with gas. Lots of people, yes. Too many. Schools?! They are working. I filmed five objects. Yes, I am shocked myself. But that's nothing, here, can you imagine, they tell us about hunger, ruin, and I am now standing next to a jewellery salon, and there is a queue outside it. Yes!
