Korban reports blackmail by the incumbent authorities

Oligarch Hennadiy Korban, former deputy to Dnipropetrovsk Governor Ihor Kolomoyskyi, has decided to enter politics. The businessman will not fight for a parliamentary seat in his home region, but will contest a seat in the Verkhovna Rada in constituency No. 205 in Chernihiv Oblast. According to Korban, the incumbent authorities have resorted to blackmail, promising that if he stops criticising them and leaves Ukrainian territory, all criminal cases against him will be closed.

У меня есть новость. Я принял решение идти в политику. Решение вполне осознанное, окончательное и - как говорится - обжалованию не подлежит. Буду бороться за мандат народного депутата Украины в избирательном округе № 205 Черниговской области. (I have news. I have decided to enter politics. The decision is fully conscious, final and - as they say - not subject to appeal. I will fight for a mandate of a People's Deputy of Ukraine in constituency No. 205 in Chernihiv Oblast.)

В Администрации Президента мне предложили обмен: если я прекращаю критиковать власть, если я предаю товарищей по борьбе, если я на время уезжаю из Украины – против меня лично закрывают уголовные дела и я смогу спокойно «решать вопросы». Те самые уголовные дела, где меня фактически обвиняют в том, что я боролся с коррупционерами, сепаратистами и предателями Украины с превышением своих полномочий. (At the Presidential Administration, they offered me a deal: if I stop criticising the authorities, if I betray my comrades-in-arms, if I temporarily leave Ukraine – the criminal cases against me personally will be closed and I will be able to calmly "resolve issues". The very same criminal cases where I am effectively accused of fighting corrupt officials, separatists and traitors to Ukraine while exceeding my authority.)

Я иду на выборы, чтобы показать всем – сделок с совестью не будет. Я готов отвечать за то, что я сделал. И за то, что я буду делать. И такую же ответственность должны нести «торгаши» во власти. (I am going to the elections to show everyone – there will be no deals with conscience. I am ready to answer for what I have done. And for what I will do. And the same responsibility must be borne by the "traders" in power.)

Идти в политику – это наш путь. Это путь, который наша команда выбрала в марте 2014 года - когда мы пришли в Днепропетровскую ОГА. Тогда просто надо было защищать наш дом от войны и российской угрозы. (Entering politics is our path. It is the path our team chose in March 2014 - when we came to the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration. Back then, we simply had to defend our home from war and the Russian threat.)

А сегодня страну нужно строить и защищать от повторения 2005 года, когда вместо реформ власть «раздерибанили» между своими.
Именно 2005 год привел к сдаче национальных интересов по газу, к усилению российского влияния, приходу к власти пророссийских сил, а в конечном счете - и к этой войне. (And today, the country needs to be built and defended against a repeat of 2005, when power was "divided up" among insiders instead of reforms being implemented.
It was 2005 that led to the surrender of national interests regarding gas, the strengthening of Russian influence, the rise to power of pro-Russian forces, and ultimately - to this war.)

Нельзя пилить бюджет и торговать возмещением НДС. Нельзя продавать должности и "решения" по уголовным делам. Нельзя давать отпущения грехов бандитам Януковича. Реки крови пролиты и тысячи жизней отданы, чтобы политики в Украине прекратили врать и построили современное, демократическое государство. Чтобы власть и общество объединяли принципы, чтобы патриотизм и любовь к Родине были дороже, чем личный бизнес с агрессором, который убивает наших сограждан. Нам нужно научиться строить демократию, где мы вместе будем работать в интересах государства, а государство - защищать права своих граждан, независимо от того, у кого сколько денег на счете. (One cannot slash the budget and trade in VAT refunds. One cannot sell positions and "solutions" to criminal cases. One cannot grant absolution for the sins of Yanukovych's bandits. Rivers of blood have been shed and thousands of lives given so that politicians in Ukraine would stop lying and build a modern, democratic state. So that power and society are united by principles, so that patriotism and love for the Motherland are worth more than personal business with the aggressor, which is killing our compatriots. We need to learn to build a democracy where we work together in the interests of the state, and the state - protects the rights of its citizens, regardless of how much money someone has in their account.)

Меня часто спрашивают «как вам удалось защитить Днепропетровск? Почему у вас не было за год коррупционных скандалов?»
Рецепт очень прост. Мы открыли двери всех кабинетов. И для каждого гражданина не было проблемы напрямую обратиться к областным властям с любым вопросом. Мы пытались помочь всем - даже там, где не имели полномочий. И каждый представитель гражданского общества, который хотел вместе с нами разделить ответственность за судьбу Родины и решить проблемы своего дома, улицы, района, области, который хотел воевать, сражаться за Украину – получал такую возможность. (I am often asked "how did you manage to defend Dnipropetrovsk? Why were there no corruption scandals in your year?"
The recipe is very simple. We opened the doors of all offices. And for every citizen it was no problem to directly address the regional authorities with any question. We tried to help everyone - even where we had no authority. And every representative of civil society who wanted to share the responsibility for the fate of the Motherland with us and solve the problems of their home, street, district, region, who wanted to fight, to battle for Ukraine – was given such an opportunity.)

Сейчас, после года борьбы, я понял: самая главная задача власти - опираться на общество, доверять людям, профессионально защищать страну и уметь считать государственные деньги. Потому что только тогда общество будет доверять власти, и только тогда интересы государства будут соблюдены.
Я буду выдвигаться на Черниговщине. Но это не означает, что я покидаю Днепр. Это значит, что я хочу перемен не в одной области, а во всей Украине, в каждом доме. (Now, after a year of struggle, I have understood: the main task of the authorities is to rely on society, to trust people, to professionally defend the country and to be able to count state money. Because only then will society trust the authorities, and only then will the interests of the state be upheld.
I will run in Chernihiv Oblast. But this does not mean that I am leaving Dnipro. It means that I want change not in one region, but in all of Ukraine, in every home.)
