Chinese engineers devise faster battery charging method

The battery is a crucial component of any vehicle. This applies not only to traditional cars but also to electric vehicles. In the latter case, the vehicle cannot move without a battery or if its power is insufficient.

Manufacturers offer batteries of various capacities and sizes. A model may have standard or reduced dimensions.

While installing a new battery in traditional vehicles poses no difficulties, the situation is entirely different with electric vehicles. In EVs, the battery is mounted on the chassis and occupies a significant portion of it.

Over time, the battery discharges faster. As a result, the car sits plugged into the power grid all night, and the owner is forced to turn off the heater or air conditioning to ensure the vehicle travels as far as possible.

Reducing replacement time

Chinese specialists aim to simplify the procedure as much as possible. Consequently, it will be much easier for an electric vehicle owner to replace the battery pack than to charge it from the power grid for hours.

The technology is called “swap-up”. In this way, China intends to expand the share of electric vehicles. It is worth noting that it is currently the largest in the world. However, the Chinese are not planning to stop there.

What problems the technology solves

The new technology can significantly ease the life of car owners. They will not have to spend time or overpay for electricity to fully use their electric vehicle.

As a result of implementing the technology, car owners will be able to discard a discharged battery and install a fully charged one instead. The entire procedure will take only a few minutes. After that, the person can continue with their business without saving on heating or air conditioning.

Additionally, the technology will allow vehicles to be sold without batteries. This will have a positive impact on their cost. An electric vehicle battery can be rented or purchased under a special plan.

If the technology is implemented, car manufacturers will have to ensure maximum compatibility of components.
