Polish presidential candidate opposes Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO

A candidate for the post of President of Poland from the opposition Law and Justice party expressed the view that Ukraine should not be admitted to membership in the EU and NATO, citing unresolved issues related to the Volhynia tragedy.

Karol Nawrocki, who currently heads the Polish Institute of National Remembrance, stated that, in his opinion, Ukraine is not ready to join these international organisations. He noted that a country that does not acknowledge its responsibility for the horrific crime against 120,000 Polish citizens cannot be part of such alliances. 

In an interview with Polsat News, Nawrocki emphasised that, if he becomes president, he would express hope for a more constructive attitude from the Ukrainian side towards Poland's efforts, based on the principles of partnership.

It is worth adding that the incumbent President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, who represents the same Law and Justice party, supports Ukraine's aspiration for membership in NATO and the EU.
