FIFA President Resigns

Barely had the latest election for the head of FIFA concluded when its winner, Joseph Blatter, announced that he is stepping down from his post. He personally revealed this today at an emergency press conference.

The re-elected FIFA president served in his position for only a few days. Rumours suggest that the cause of such a radical step was the high-profile arrests of FIFA officials that took place last week. The football organisation's functionaries were accused of corruption and the improper appropriation of financial funds.

It is not ruled out that Blatter's position may soon be taken by Michel Platini. In addition to the change of FIFA's leader, the organisation faces an investigation into the World Cup in Russia and Qatar, which will most likely result in these countries losing the championship.
