Fico claims Ukraine will never become a NATO member

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico made a resonant statement, asserting that Ukraine cannot join NATO. His remarks came against the backdrop of ongoing discussions regarding Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration.

"Ukraine will not join NATO": Fico's position

In Fico's view, the statement regarding Ukraine's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance contradicts the current geopolitical reality. "Украина никогда не станет членом НАТО" ("Ukraine will never become a member of NATO"), he stated, adding that this opinion is based on an assessment of the current situation in the region.

Prospects for EU membership also in question

Fico also expressed doubt about the possibility of Ukraine's integration into the European Union. He noted that some recent statements by politicians suggest that Kyiv may face serious obstacles on the path to EU accession.

"Украина ожидают огромные проблемы, если речь идет о вступлении в Европейский Союз" ("Ukraine faces huge problems if it comes to joining the European Union"), the Slovak Prime Minister added.
