Zelensky: Russia struck six energy facilities, ignoring Trump's initiative

Over the past 24 hours, Russian armed forces struck six energy facilities on Ukrainian territory. President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that during the night, the Ukrainian side did not carry out attacks on the energy infrastructure of the Russian Federation, counting on the observance of the energy ceasefire declared by US President Donald Trump.

Kyiv honoured agreements, Moscow did not

As the head of state emphasised, despite Ukraine refraining from strikes on Russian energy targets, the Russian Federation continued to destroy Ukrainian infrastructure.

«Ми не атакували, поки Росія била по наших АЗС, енергетичній інфраструктурі та інших об’єктах. Думаю, це була відповідь Путіна президенту Трампу. І сигнали від Росії пішли дуже чіткі: вони нічого не знають про енергетичне перемир’я» (We did not attack while Russia was striking our gas stations, energy infrastructure and other facilities. I think this was Putin's response to President Trump. And the signals from Russia were very clear: they know nothing about the energy ceasefire), Zelensky stated.

Ukraine's position on the scope of the ceasefire

Earlier, media reported that Donald Trump meant a mutual refusal by Kyiv and Moscow to strike oil refineries under the energy ceasefire.

However, Volodymyr Zelensky effectively rejected such a format of agreements. According to him, there are currently no operational oil refineries in Ukraine.

The Ukrainian President insists on a broader approach, which provides for a complete cessation of strikes on all energy facilities of both countries. Thus, the format proposed by Ukraine aims to protect not only oil refining capacities but also all other energy infrastructure.
