USAID provided Ukraine with nearly $5.5 billion in 2024

According to Forbes, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) allocated significant financial aid to Ukraine in 2024, amounting to nearly $5.5 billion. The majority of these funds was directed towards supporting Ukrainian government programmes, including $4.2 billion, of which $3.9 billion went directly into the country's state budget.

Humanitarian aid and energy sector support

In addition, funds were allocated for humanitarian aid — totalling $640 million — as well as for supporting energy infrastructure — $250 million. These sums are intended to mitigate the consequences of the armed conflict and assist in the restoration of Ukraine's key infrastructure facilities.

Consequences of the aid freeze for Ukraine

At the same time, Forbes notes that under the aid freeze imposed by the US government, the restrictions that had the greatest impact on Ukraine concerned assistance for internally displaced persons (IDPs), as well as key sectors such as energy, small and medium-sized businesses, journalists, and the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
