Attack on public transport and swift law enforcement response

In mid-October 2026, an incident occurred in Warsaw in which two Ukrainian citizens were victims. Inside one of the city buses, an unknown man attacked passengers using a knife. As a result, both victims sustained multiple stab and slash wounds. The attacker managed to disappear before the police arrived, but the victims were immediately hospitalised. The investigation believes that the cause of the attack was their nationality.

Search in the forest area

Police officers from the Bielany district quickly identified the suspect, but it was not possible to physically detain him on the first day. Further intelligence work was taken over by the criminal department, which led the trail to a 30-year-old man. It turned out that he had set up a temporary shelter in a forest area within the Bielany district. It was there that he was detained.

Charges and recidivist status

The detainee was charged on three counts. Two of them directly relate to the attack on the Ukrainian citizens. The third charge is connected to a separate incident that took place in August 2024: at that time, in a facility on Shakespeare Street, the man made criminal threats towards another man.

The investigation classifies all three acts as committed under conditions of recidivism. This is due to the fact that the suspect had previously served a sentence for a similar crime, and the new offences occurred within five years of his release.

Possible punishment and case status

Under current legislation, the man faces a prison term of between three and 20 years. At the prosecutor's request, the court selected a preventive measure in the form of a temporary arrest for a period of three months. Currently, the investigation is being continued by the Warsaw-Zoliborz District Prosecutor's Office.
