Discussions have intensified in US media and social networks regarding the candidacy of the new White House press secretary. Particular attention has been drawn to an unusual interpretation of events related to a possible mix-up of identities.
According to a version circulating on the internet, Donald Trump may have initially been recommended the candidacy of Dana White — a former senior Pentagon employee. However, according to these reports, the president allegedly confused her with Dana White, who is the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
It is worth noting that the former spokesperson previously held the position of Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs in the Trump administration and worked as the Pentagon’s chief representative. Her professional experience in media relations and crisis communications meets the requirements for the White House press secretary role.
However, on 7 November, Trump publicly announced that he had offered the press secretary position to Dana White — the UFC boss and his long-time ally. The president called him a "fighter and warrior" and even suggested involving several famous mixed martial arts fighters as assistants.
The theory of the mix-up quickly spread online, although no confirmation has been provided that Trump actually confused the two individuals. Moreover, the president’s publication directly points to the UFC boss.
Dana White himself stated that he plans to meet with Trump in Washington on 9 November, but did not confirm his agreement to take the position. According to CNN, a source familiar with the situation claims that the UFC boss declined the offer.
