Participants are demanding a complete halt to grain transit from the territory of the Russian Federation and temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine through the Latvian border. Estimates suggest that over 300 people attended the rally, along with approximately 200 units of various equipment.
Demonstrators held placards and flags, supporting the rally's slogan "No to Blood Grain!". Among those present were not only pedestrians but also drivers. Activists brought their own passenger cars, decorated with the flags of Latvia and Ukraine, and also mobilised agricultural machinery, tractors, and trucks.
Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs participated in the event. He noted that it is currently not possible to fully stop grain transit. He cited the lack of unanimity within the European Union on this issue as the main obstacle.
According to the Prime Minister, if Latvia were to unilaterally decide to ban transit, it could lead to negative economic consequences for the country. Meanwhile, Kulbergs emphasised that all Baltic countries are actively raising the issue of banning Russian grain transit at the EU level.
