Trump asked Musk to lift Starlink restrictions for Ukraine

US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with SpaceX founder Elon Musk, during which he requested the cancellation of restrictions on the use of the Starlink satellite network in Ukraine. According to The Wall Street Journal, citing American and Ukrainian officials, the Starshield satellite communication system began operating almost in normal mode after this discussion.

Speed increased, but no full restoration

Ukrainian officials note that it has not yet been possible to fully restore the system's operation to its previous level. However, according to them, the connection speed has increased compared to the period when previous restrictions were in effect. Sources for the publication report that Trump expressed disappointment that the system's speed is still limited to approximately 100 miles per hour (about 160 km/h). This week, the head of the White House also informed his aides and allies of his desire to fully lift these restrictions.

Impact on military operations

Military expert Michael Kofman stated that lifting the restrictions would significantly expand Ukraine's strike capabilities. In his assessment, this would allow for the more active deployment of interceptor drones against jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles. Kofman added that Ukrainian units reported more stable system operation during previous tests. Meanwhile, the final restoration of Starlink to full functionality has not yet been confirmed.
