Starbucks to pay $50m over scalding injury
In 2020, an incident in the US resulted in millions of dollars in losses for Starbucks. A delivery driver purchased three XXL cups of tea. However, when the paper cups fell out of the holder, boiling water spilled onto his knees, causing serious burns.
Severe consequences
The victim sustained third-degree burns to his genitals, groin, and inner thighs. Doctors were forced to perform several skin graft surgeries to restore the damaged areas.
Court ruling
The victim's lawyers secured a verdict in a jury trial, which ordered Starbucks to pay $50 million in compensation. However, the corporation intends to appeal the decision.
