US Senator calls Trump-Putin deal a "dance on US reputation"

Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal voiced sharp criticism of the agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to lift sanctions on Russian diesel fuel. In his view, this decision constitutes a "stain on US reputation" and makes American companies accomplices in Russia's war against Ukraine.

Putin's "blood money": Senator warns companies

Blumenthal emphasised that lifting sanctions "will benefit only the Chinese and Russian economies" and will lead to further casualties among Ukraine's civilian population. He urged American companies to refrain from purchasing Russian raw materials, warning: "Congress is watching you".

"The President's decision to lift sanctions on Russian diesel fuel is a disgrace and makes us accomplices in Putin's war against Ukraine. This thinly veiled attempt to soften the blow of Trump's illegal war in Iran will benefit only the Chinese and Russian economies and lead to the deaths of even more innocent people in Ukraine," the Senator stated.

Deal contradicts bipartisan bill

Blumenthal noted that this decision directly contradicts the goals of a bipartisan congressional bill aimed at imposing "hellish sanctions" on the Russian Federation. He called on the President to immediately reverse the deal, which, in his words, is also an insult to the memory of Lindsey Graham.

Information about the Senator's statements was published in a press release from his office.
