Plans to restore military support

US Democratic Party Senator Richard Blumenthal officially announced his intention to actively lobby for the resumption of military aid to Ukraine. According to him, these efforts will begin immediately after the Democrats' victory in the nationwide elections in the United States.

The politician shared his plans on his account on the social media platform X.

Criticism of the previous administration's actions

In his statement, Blumenthal called for the reversal of decisions made during Donald Trump's tenure as president. Specifically, the senator advocated for the restoration of sanctions restrictions that the Trump administration had abandoned, as well as for the termination of the diesel deal concluded by him. The senator called it shameful.

Richard Blumenthal placed particular emphasis on the need to restore military support for Ukraine. He stressed that the priority must be the supply of air defence systems.

The goal of pressuring Russia

According to the senator, these measures should serve as a clear signal of Washington's support for Ukraine. The main objective of such actions is to compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to engage in serious peace negotiations.

«Я внесу законопроєкт, щоб скористатися цим моментом – критично важливим переломним етапом, коли переконливі перемоги на виборах мають переконати Путіна, що Америка підтримує Україну» (I will introduce a bill to take advantage of this moment – a critically important turning point, where convincing election victories must convince Putin that America supports Ukraine), Richard Blumenthal emphasised.
