Reuters received millions of dollars from the US government

The well-known news agency Reuters received multi-million dollar payments from the American government, as revealed by a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter). This was stated by entrepreneur Elon Musk, citing official procurement documents.

Millions of dollars for "social engineering"

According to Musk, the payments amount to multi-million dollar sums for the execution of a programme related to "large-scale social deception". He emphasised that this is the exact wording contained in the official documents.

The discussion was triggered by another post on the social network X, which claimed that Reuters received $9 million from the Pentagon as part of a "large-scale social engineering" programme.

Funding through the Department of Defense

It is known that these funds were allocated through the US Department of Defense between 2018 and 2022. Formally, the payments were made under the "cyber defence" budget line, however, the details of the cooperation remain unclear.
