Trump to fire FBI staff

US President Donald Trump announced his intention to dismiss several Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) employees who were involved in investigating the events surrounding the Capitol takeover on 6 January 2021. Reuters and AP reported the news.

At a press conference with the Prime Minister of Japan, Trump stated that "we need to fire the employees who were involved in corruption" (we need to fire the employees who were involved in corruption). He added that the dismissal process would be carried out quickly and with maximum precision.

There are concerns that Trump may use the dismissals as an act of revenge against those employees who conducted investigations into his supporters involved in the Capitol takeover.

However, as Reuters reports, Trump did not specify exactly how many FBI agents he plans to dismiss or by what deadline this will be done.
